This page was created in efforts to bring a more constructive dialogue to the current situation in Mali and the Sahel.  As the situation continues to draw public attention, there is a need for informed dialogue to bring critical awareness to the full scope of the actors and scenarios in the Sahel.  The authors hope to bring more understanding and clarity to the confusion that has taken over the Western press.

Katie Conlon, is working towards her Masters of International Peace Studies at Notre Dame.  She spent 3 1/2 years in West Africa, including two while stationed in Gao, Mali in the Peace Corps.

Assoumane Maiga, is a native of Timbuktu, Mali.  He is currently working towards his phD in Agricultural Communications at Oklahoma State University.
